Obituary of Roy W. Knapton

Roy W. Knapton, 89, of Penn Yan, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017. He was born on May 28, 1927 in the Town of Barrington, the son of the late Ray P. and Frances M. (Jayne) Knapton. Roy served with the US Army during WWII. On May 1, 1947, he married the former Charlotte M. Spears in Dundee, NY. She died on June 17, 2001. Roy was employed with International Salt Co. in Watkins Glen for 38 years. He was a former member of the Dundee American Legion, former security at the Dundee Race Track, and a former member of Civil Defense. Roy is survived by two sons, Frank (Vonda) Knapton of Guyanoga, and Charles (Kim) Knapton of Dundee; three daughters, Donna (Briggs) Johnson of Dundee, Sheryel Knapton of Dundee, and Sandra Howell of Penn Yan; a sister, Jennine (Gilbert) Alexander of Burdett; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, David in 2006, Lyman in 1966; daughter, Dianna in 1954, sisters, Mable Dennison in 2006, Anna Sims; and brother, Kenneth Knapton. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1:30 at Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee, with the Rev.Dale Eby officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Dundee.
