John Robert Allen Dundee, NY- John Robert (Bob) Allen, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Steuben Center in Bath, NY. Mr. Allen was born on December 4, 1927 in Dundee, NY. Bob married Betty Berryman on November 26, 1949. On May 31, 2017 Bob lost Betty, his lifelong dance partner and best friend. They were married for 67 years. Bob will be remembered by his four sons, Thomas (Rhonda) Allen, Edward (Virginia) Allen, Bruce Allen, and Brian (Roxanne) Allen, all of Dundee; seven grandchildren, Timothy (Reisha) Allen, Joseph Allen, Casey Allen, David (Rebecca) Allen, Morgan Allen, Jennifer (David) Clancey, and Natalie Allen; four great grandchildren, Justin, Marshall, and Mickayla Allen, and Lilith Woodas; and his sister, Erma Peck of Painted Post. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Betty, his parents Edward and Helen (DeCamp) Allen, and brothers; Donald, Cleland, and Lauren Allen. Bob was a member of the Lamoka Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Barrington Rifle Club, Dundee Rotary, and former volunteer firefighter for the Tyrone Fire Department. He was a member of the Mason's since 1956. During his 61 years as a member he served as Master in 1963, Assistant Grand Lecturer in 1967, and District Deputy of the Schuyler, Chemung, and Tioga Districts from 1972-1973. In 1997 he was appointed as District Lecturer for the Order of the Eastern Star. After graduating from Dundee Central School in 1945, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a yeoman for two years and left the Navy as a Seaman 3rd Class. Bob was re-called in 1950 after the beginning of the Korean War. He liked to joke that the Navy was nice enough to let him get his crops in first. He was released from his duties in January of 1951 just two days before his eldest son was born. Bob often spoke about his time serving in the Navy and the places he was able to experience because of it. Bob was a lifetime farmer, real-estate agent, auctioneer, and the owner of the Sport Shop in Dundee. He was very proud of the fact that he was instrumental in initiating hay auctions so farmers in the area could sell their surplus to others. Bob could often be seen out on his tractor at his farm on Hallock Road, but he would always stop what he was doing to visit with people. The Lives of John Robert "Bob" Allen and Betty Jean (Berryman) Allen will be celebrated on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Tyrone Fire Hall (3600 State Route 226 Tyrone, NY 14887).
