Obituary of Arden Wheeler

Arden Wheeler Penn Yan: Arden Wheeler, age 80, of Penn Yan, NY passed away unexpectedly with his family at his bedside on Monday October 5, 2015 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Honoring his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A private graveside memorial service will held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Dundee, N.Y. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee Fire Company, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Arden was born November 16, 1934 in Potter, NY, the son of the late Leonard J. and Minnie Abel Wheeler Sr. On Nov. 18, 1961 in Hammondsport Baptist Church he married the former Emma Jane Muchler; who passed away on Sept. 4, 2012. A life-long local resident, Arden was a truck driver, employed by the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation in Penn Yan, NY for 25 years. Retirement was not something he was ready to do, so he drove truck for Collins Paving for another dozen years or more, before becoming a driver for the local Mennonite Community. Mr. Wheeler was happiest when he was behind the steering wheel, but when he wasn't he enjoyed woodworking, watching TV, and was a 2 Cylinder John Deere Tractor enthusiast. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his 3 sons Lynn (Bonnie) Wheeler of Dundee, Steve Wheeler with whom he made his home, James (Patti) Wheeler of Italy Hill, NY; 2 daughters Mary Wheeler of Dundee, and Rose (Fred) Parsons of Avon, NY; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Harold Wheeler of Bath, NY, Leonard J. (Erma) Wheeler of Avon; 2 sisters Susan Wheeler of Branchport, NY, Hazel Swinehart of Penn Yan, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, and parents, he was pre-deceased by 6 brothers, and 1 sister. Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
