Obituary of Florence Irene Unrue

Florence Irene Unrue Spencerport/Elmira Heights: Florence Irene Unrue, age 87, of Spencerport, NY, formerly of Elmira Heights, died peacefully, Wednesday July 27, 2016 surrounded by her family, at Parkridge Hospital, Rochester, NY. Honoring her wishes, a private graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY, where she will be put to rest next to her beloved husband, Robert ("Bob"), of 62 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parma Baptist Church 4997 Ridge Road West, Spencerport, NY 14559. "Irene" was born August 20, 1928 in Glenora, NY, daughter of the late Bert A. and Anna B. (Hoagland) Hill. She graduated from Dundee Central School, class of 1945. On September 28, 1946 she married Robert Ray Unrue at the Elmwood Avenue Baptist Church of Elmira Heights. They had lived in Spencerport since 1962 until Roberts's death in February 2009 at which time she moved to the Villages at Unity, Rochester, NY. Irene worked part-time in the cafeteria in the Spencerport School District. After retiring, she volunteered as a first grade teacher's aide for 20 years and also volunteered at Wedgewood Nursing Home. Irene and her husband, Bob, were long-time, devoted members of the Parma Baptist Church. Irene found great joy throughout her lifetime caring for her family, gardening, reading, knitting, traveling with her husband and reveling in the beauty of nature on her lengthy, daily walks. She is loved and will be profoundly missed by her children, Larry (June "Kitty") Unrue of New Oxford, PA., Sharon (Gary) Smith of Albion, NY, Linda (Neil) Alexander of Dundee, NY and David (Carol) Unrue of Rochester; Grandchildren, Jason (Corinne) Smith, Matthew (Colleen) Smith, Rachel (Michael) Raley, Hannah Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Jeremiah Alexander, Alicia Alexander, Alissa Unrue and Daniel Unrue. Great-grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary Smith, Eli Smith and Nathan Unrue. Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY.
