Obituary of Peter Christensen

Peter Christensen Penn Yan: Peter Christensen, age 68, of Penn Yan, N.Y. died Tuesday April 10, 2012 at Geneva General Hospital, in Geneva, N.Y.. Friend's may call from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 14) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan, where funeral services will begin with an Elks Service at 1:00 pm followed by a service with Pastor Michele Fischer officiating. Burial with Military Honor's will be in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any Veterans Organization or Cause, or to the Himrod Conservation Club, 770 Rice Hill Rd., Himrod, NY 14842. Peter was born January 1, 1944 in New York City, NY, one of 5 sons of the late Milton and Jean Reynolds Christensen, He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1966. A life long area resident, he was a heavy equipment operator employed by I.U.O.E. Local 832 of Rochester, NY; retiring in 2000. Mr. Christensen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Himrod Conservation Club, the Penn Yan Elks B.P.O.E. #1722, the Penn Yan American Legion Johnson - Costello Post #355, and the Yates County 40 et 8 Voiture #698. In his spare time Peter enjoyed anything to do with antique trucks and tractors. He also was an avid race fan, not only NASCAR, but late model, and vintage dirt track racing. He was also a devoted sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. His real joy was due to his many years of experience, earned him great respect and the title of "Quality Control Officer" at Smuggler's Corner Bar & Grill, in Potter, NY. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his 2 sons Kristopher P. (Shannon) Christensen of Rushville, NY, Kasey (Pam) Christensen of Penn Yan; 6 grandchildren Heather Christensen, Kristopher Christensen II, Spencer Christensen, Brittany Simpson, Courtney Place and Aaron Duncanson; 4 brothers David (Sharon) Christensen of Canandaigua, Dan (Shyann) Christensen of Borrago Springs, CA, John Christensen of Penn Yan, Bruce (Yvonne) Christensen of Watkins Glen; 3 sisters Martha (Ken) Gandy of Concord, NC, Mary Beckwith of Kannapolis, NC, Peg (George) Patterson of Penn Yan; numerous nieces, nephews; and countless friends.
