Obituary of Capt. William J. Peters Jr.

Captain William J. ''Bill'' Peters Jr. U.S.M.C. Retired Himrod: Captain William J. ''Bill'' Peters Jr., age 81, of Himrod, NY died Sunday September 23, 2018 at home. Honoring his wishes there will be no prior calling hours; and services will be held at the convenience of the family. "Bill" was born September 27, 1936 in Cedar Grove, West Virginia, the only son of the late William Jennings Peters Sr. and Virginia {Eary} Peters. His father never got to see his son, as he was killed in a mining accident at the age of 24 before Bill was born. His mother passed away when he was nine, leaving he, and his sister to be raised by their grandmother. Bill served in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Vietnam War, retiring in 1977, after 22 years of active duty service and earning a rank of Captain. On July 5, 1991 in Bullhead City, Arizona, he married the former Sandra L. Mair. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Sandy L. Peters at home; 3 children, daughters Lynn and Helen Ann; son John; step son Michael; step daughter Tammy; sister Rebecca Anglin of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by a son William David Peters. Arrangements were entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
