Obituary of James L. Snyder

James L. ''Lindy'' Snyder Penn Yan: James L. ''Lindy'' Snyder, age 79, of Penn Yan, N.Y. died Saturday September 17, 2011 at Geneva General Hospital, in Geneva, N.Y.. There are no prior calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 1) in Hillside Cemetery, Route 14A, Dundee, NY; with Pastor Leo Galletta officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels c/o Yates County Office for the Aging, 417 Liberty St. Penn Yan, NY 14527. Jim was born February 27, 1932 in Shamokin, PA, the son of the late George and Kate Kahler Snyder. He has lived in New York since 1954. He was a former employee of the Yates Co. Highway Dept., in Benton, NY; and had previously worked for many years at Penn Yan Boats. He enjoyed collecting model and die-cast cars, and trains, and loved his dog. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his only son David J. (Denise Creedon) Snyder Sr. with whom he made his home; 5 daughters Cynthia L. (Mark) Bechard, Pamela A. Snyder, Connie J. (Roger) Hayes, Karen L. (Richard) Multer, and Heidi E. (Philip) Catlin all of Penn Yan; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 4 sisters Mae Swank of Paxinos, PA, Kathryn Maurer of Pitman, PA, Pauline (Howard) Rogers of Penn Yan, and Elizabeth (Lucien) Morin of Rochester; countless nieces and nephews; and his wife for 33 years Joan Snyder of Penn Yan. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Kelly J. Williamson in 1988, a daughter in law Karen M. Snyder in 2009, 7 brothers, and 1 sister.
