Obituary of John Lincoln Knapp

John Lincoln Knapp Dundee: John Lincoln Knapp, age 73, of Dundee, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY. Honoring the family's wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A Celebration of His Life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday Oct. 14, 2023 at the Dundee American Legion Spring St. Dundee, NY Memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee Fire Company, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837; or the Wilmot Cancer Center 601 Elmwood Ave. Rochester, NY 14642. John was born July 26, 1950 in Penn Yan, NY, the son of the late Paul G. and Agnes (Greeneway) Knapp. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1969. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army in 1970. On Dec. 14, 1996 in the Dundee American Legion he married the former Laurie Joy Wright. John was a self-employed logger, and tree surgeon for most all of his life, he loved to make sawdust; he was also well known for his scrap iron recycling business. Mr. Knapp was a member of Wayne American Legion Meade-Price Post 1208 Inc.; was a Past Commander of the Dundee American Legion, and member of the 7th District 40 et 8 Society; he was also a long time Sponsor of the National Wild Turkey Federation; and he rarely missed a gun raffle of fund raiser throughout the area. In his spare-time, he loved hunting, fishing, and socializing with anyone he met, or knew. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Laurie J. Knapp; 2 sons John A. 'Jay' Knapp, and Michael L. Knapp; 3 step sons, Zachary H., Nathanial T., and Jonah C. Smith; 9 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; a sister in law Lucinda J. (John) Flynn; and 5 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother Paul 'Skeeter' Knapp; and a sister Bev Hall. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
