Obituary of Robert J. Murdock

Robert J. Murdock Penn Yan: Robert J. Murdock, age 71, of Penn Yan, NY gave up his fight on Sunday March 3, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester, N.Y. Honoring his wishes there are no formal calling hours. All his friends and family are invited to a Celebration of His Life starting at 1:00 p.m. – until, on Saturday April 20, 2024, at the Penn Yan Moose Lodge, 301 Elm St., Penn Yan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory should be made to the Penn Yan FFA 305 Court St. Penn Yan, NY 14527 Att: Carlie Bossard. 'Bob' was born Dec. 31, 1952 in Penn Yan, NY, one of 3 sons of the late Harold J. and Lulu (nee Stratton) Murdock. Raised on the family Dairy Farm, educated in Penn Yan Schools; he married the love of his life, the former Jeanne R. Armstrong on April 15, 1972; who passed away on Aug. 6, 2021. A hard worker all his life, 'Bob' had a very diversified resumé. From his dairy farm upbringing, he once worked at the old Texaco at the Lake St. four corners, before he worked for Penn Yan Boats. For a while he traveled with J.R. Inc. installing windows in Skyscrapers, followed Blowers Fertilizer in Hall until he was hired by B.R. DeWitt and planted his feet on concrete, delivering 100's of 1000's of yards before he finally retired after 31 years of service from Hanson Aggregates in Penn Yan. Mr. Murdock was a member of Teamsters Local 118; the Penn Yan Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #2030; Sons' of the Penn Yan American Legion; a Life member of the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Assoc., and a long time member and Captain in the Yates County Pool League. In his younger days, he played basketball, and enjoyed the woods, while pretending to hunt. He will be dearly missed by his 2 sons Nicholas J. (Hannah Wheeler)Murdock, and Chris R. (Patty Scutt) Murdock; 2 granddaughters Madisyn Murdock, and Molly Murdock; his sister Mary Ellen (Larry) Allen; and sister in law Jean Murdock all of Penn Yan; in laws Paul B. (Sharon) Armstrong of North Hampton, MA, David L. (Lois McMichael) Armstrong, and Kelly Armstrong also of Penn Yan; along with several nieces and nephews, and countless friends and beloved teammates.
