Dear Mrs. Averill and family members,
I am so sorry to have read Mr. Averill's obituary in Sunday's Rochester newspaper. I was a student in his 12th grade history class at Geneseo Central School. I graduated in 1969 and I think Mr. Averill went into administration after that. We touched base a few times after that during his time as Supt. in Dundee and after his time there.
Mr. Averill was a wonderful teacher! Part of the reason I became a history major at SUNY Geneseo, in large part because of his teaching. He made history so interesting. I looked forward to his class every day. He was a very fair and kind teacher. He treated students with respect and always had a good sense of humor. Geneseo Central School lost a good man when he left the district.
After a long career as transportation director at Geneseo Central School, I now serve as a member of the Geneseo Central Board of Education. I noted Mr. Averill's passing at our board meeting last evening. I thought people should know what a great contribution he made to the district.
I will keep Mr. Averill and all of you in my prayers. He is now enjoying God's everlasting peace and joy.
Sincerely,
David Dwyer

Dear Averill Family,
My heart goes out to all of you at this time. Few in this world are as kind, thoughtful and genuinely good as Uncle Don. His smile and and even that twinkle in his eye were generously given and I always felt loved and welcomed by his words and presence. I'm so grateful to have had him in my life all these years, especially in the role of Godfather. I know he is at peace and in the loving presence of God, the Father of us all. Love to all of you...Margaret and Paul

Thank you Papa for all of the beautiful memories we shared across the years. I will never forget visiting you and Nana's family home in Lakemont, NY, gathering with all of the family to play games and share backyard picnics. Some of my favorite memories are all of us cousins having sleepovers in the big red room upstairs and laughing until we fell asleep. We miss and love you dearly. -Corrie & Kyle Dobis

Sending prayers for peace for my cousins. I have been reminiscing about all the adventures with Uncle Don and your family through the years of my childhood. So many fun times: sledding, visiting the zoo, going to amusement parks, getting ice cream cones, and visiting your family in your various homes. It was important to Uncle Don to take my mom and our family to NYC to see things he knew would be valuable and create great memories. I am ever grateful for these opportunities and warm recollections. May you be sustained in this difficult time by your cherished memories.
Love,
Kathleen

We have very fond memories of Uncle Don. His warmth, his smile, his love of family. We enjoyed the family reunions, which gave us the chance to see the strong bonds between Dad (Bill) and his siblings. I know we all have memories of playing horseshoes! He was a dear and loving man. We are so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Avrill loved Dundee Central School, His focus from the time I met him in the mid ‘80s was to create a great rural school with abounding opportunities for students and staff members. He cared for his family, all children, teachers, staff, and his community. He worked intuitively and diligently to bring his District into the 21st century and earned the love and respect of so many Dundee folks and fellow superintendents. His integrity and wisdom still shape the direction of DCS today. Rest in Peace, dear Mr. Averill. Thank you for your service, your guidance, and your grace. Nancy Zimar
